Metrowater hires metered standpipes to customers who wish to extract water from Metrowater’s watermain for use on development sites, road works, landscaping and wherever access to water is limited.

Metered standpipes are available for hire on a daily, weekly, monthly or 6 monthly basis. There is a charge to hire the standpipe and also a charge for water used.

Customers are required to enter into a hire agreement for the use of a metered standpipe. The Metered Standpipe Hire Agreement details Metrowater’s requirements in relation to hiring a metered standpipe. Metered hydrant standpipe hire agreement.

Only Metrowater metered standpipes are permitted to draw water from fire hydrants on Metrowater’s watermains and use has to be authorised by Metrowater. Use of an unauthorised standpipe on Metrowater’s network is considered theft of water and fines of up to $20,000 can apply.
