High water pressure causes wear and tear in the water supply network. This leads to pipes leaking or bursting resulting in interruptions to water supply and significant losses of valuable water.
Auckland City’s residents and businesses experience a wide range of water pressures due mainly to the local geography. The aim of water pressure management is to adjust water pressure levels in areas with high pressure to a more appropriate level thereby reducing watermain breaks, improving the reliability of the water supply system and conserve water.
Metrowater is currently trialling water pressure management in the suburb of Panmure.
