Your water meter

Why read your meter?

Sometimes, our meter readers can’t access the meter on your property, so they may leave a card for you to complete. If this happens, please read your meter, fill in the details on the card, and return the reply paid card to the address stated. Alternatively, you can call the number on the card and give us the reading over the telephone.

You may also like to read your meter to see how much water you use during a day or week, or to confirm that the latest meter reading on your bill is accurate.

Reading your water meter can also be useful if you think there may be a leak somewhere on your property - see how to check for leaks.

How to read your meter

Your water meter is usually just inside your front boundary, in a timber, plastic, concrete or metal box. Lift the lid and you should see the meter dial. You may need to remove leaves and debris, or flip up the protective cover, to read the register.

Most water meters are a digital metric type.
