Your water meter measures the amount of water that enters your property. This helps us charge accurately for the water you use and it can also help you gauge your water use. We read your water meter approximately every three
months.
Who is responsible?
Metrowater owns the meters, regardless of where they are situated, and we require access to them at all times. We will make every effort to carry out readings and maintenance during daylight hours unless there is an emergency.
If the meter is located outside your property boundary, your responsibility starts at the meter. This means that you are responsible for the water pipes and any water leaks from the meter to your property and inside your property. If the meter is located inside your property boundary (or if you do not have a meter) then your responsibility starts at the boundary. This means you are responsible for the water pipes and any water leaks within your property.
When the meter is located inside the property, Metrowater is only responsible for the pipework to the meter.
