Auckland City has its fair share of rain, so why the need to save water?
- Save money
With volumetric pricing, consumers pay for every drop they use. By using less water you will be able to save money.
- Population growth
With increases in demand for water, due to population and daily consumption increases, expanding the water supply - including dams and reservoirs, pipelines, and water treatment infrastructure - will eventually need to be carried out. A reduction in water consumption may result in lower costs for customers.
- Amount of wastewater to the sewer system
Every day Auckland City households and businesses discharge over 92 million litres of wastewater to the Mangere wastewater treatment plant.
Using less water can reduce the volume of wastewater that needs to be treated and discharged into the Manukau Harbour.
- Decrease greenhouse gases
Reduced water use will decrease the amount of energy needed to pump and treat water. The greenhouse gases released from fossil fuels used to generate this energy will therefore be reduced.
