Metrowater works with businesses to help them implement water saving measures, as part of our overall commitment to reduce per capita water demand by 10% for the period 2004 to 2020. Taylor’s Group Limited an Auckland business, is a prime example of the potential cost savings a business can make through smart savings in their water usage, giving them the competitive advantage. Operating one of the largest plants of its kind in Australasia, providing laundry and related services, water conservation is critical for their business. By providing key information, Metrowater has helped them in building a business case to implement many of their water saving measures.

Through wise investments on plant equipment and a continuous improvement programme, they have made significant operational savings over the past year. Their largest savings result from the purchase of new laundry equipment, including a continuous batch washer which recirculates water and increases plant capacity. The net effect is Taylors now only need to use one of the two large boilers they have on site, greatly increasing their water savings and energy costs.

In addition, Taylor’s have been diligent in tracking down water leakage by fitting check meters on all of the inlet lines on their property. By employing these conservation measures, their total water usage is now 30% lower than it was two years ago. Taylor’s intend in the future to consider the installation of low flow shower heads to their 30 showers and other measures to continue to offer their customers the best possible value.
