Watercare Services Limited (Watercare), Metrowater’s bulk water provider, is undertaking an important water upgrade project on Sunday 4 October 2009. This work will improve security of water supply to critical parts of Auckland city.
Watercare Services Limited (Watercare), Metrowater’s bulk water provider, has identified badly corroded pipe work on the Newmarket watermain at Gillies Ave. Should the watermain fail or “burst” businesses and households in Newmarket, Parnell and parts of Remuera would lose their water supply, possibly for up to 24 hours.
To ensure security of supply Watercare will be establishing a branch connection between the Epsom and Domain watermains. This will be achieved using a drilling technique known as Hot Tapping where the connection is made under pressure – the water supply is not shut down thereby ensuring minimal disruption to water supply.
This work will also allow repairs to be carried out on the Newmarket watermain without the need to disrupt water supply.
Watercare will be carrying out the Hot Tapping work on Sunday 4 October 2009 commencing at 10.30am. The work is expected to take approximately 4 hours to complete.
